Message to Local 328 Members Employed by Stop & Shop

Late yesterday afternoon, Local 328 was notified by Stop & Shop corporate of their intention to close six stores within Local 328’s jurisdiction.

As a union representing more than 8,500 Stop & Shop workers, our number one priority is protecting our members in the stores that are closing.

We were informed that the following stores; #38 Raynham MA, #55 Brockton MA, #82 Halifax MA, #2414 Pembroke MA, #703 Johnston RI, as well as #2706 Eastside Market in Providence RI, will be closing.    

Through discussions with the company, they have assured us that there will be no layoffs as a result of these store closings.  Full-time employees will be transferred to other stores, while part-time employees will be asked to provide the location(s) of other stores that they would be willing to travel to. 

We are very disappointed that the company has decided to make these drastic changes and we hope that this is the last time we will need to deal with such a situation. 

We will be working closely with the company and our members as these stores begin to close to ensure that every single member has the opportunity to keep their union job and their union contract.
