Introduction
Union Members must be politically active. All the gains workers have achieved over the years can disappear with the stroke of a pen. Local 328 is constantly in contact with Local, State & Federal officials to not only maintain our hard fought gains, but to continue to improve through legislation, our union won benefits on the job.
The current political environment in Rhode Island is tenuous for the labor movement. The state has a governor who despises the concept of collective bargaining and is continually attempting to destroy your union’s ability to better your lives.
The Governor in Rhode Island would like nothing more than to have the satisfaction of passing a law which will eliminate bonus pay on Sunday. This Governor wants you to make less money.
Rhode Island and Massachusetts are currently the only two states in the United States with legislative mandated time plus one half on Sunday. This is because of the hard work and diligence of your union representatives who keep their eyes on the ball and the union’s ability to support candidates who don’t want to slash your wages.
