Scholarships and UFCW Discount College Program

UFCW Local 328 offers several scholarships for students. Eligible participants must be enrolled full time in a degree program at any post secondary college/university or vocational/technical school. In addition, applicants must be an eligible member, spouse, child, or grandchild of an active Local 328 member or the Local 328 Retirees club. Be sure to check this website and your union bulletin board for more information.

The UFCW International Union also offers a scholarship to graduating high school seniors, awarded in each of the regions in the U.S. and Canada.

Other scholarships are offered through the local’s affiliation with the AFL-CIO. Most of the local labor councils offer scholarships to our union members.

Mass. AFL-CIO Scholarship and Labor Education Program

NEW: The Greater Southeastern Massachusetts Labor Council Scholarship(Applications must be submitted by April 21st, 2024)

NEW: 2024 Robert Burke Petronella Scholarship (Applications must be submitted by June 15th, 2024)

Roman T. Barry

Roman is employed by Stop & Shop #402, Kingston, MA.  Roman is entering his sophomore year at Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay, MA where he is working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Facility Engineering.  Roman is a two-time winner of a Local 328 scholarship!

Abby M. Bauman

Abby is the daughter of member Janice Bauman who is employed by Stop & Shop #736, Westerly, RI.  Abby is entering her freshman year at Colby College in Waterville, Maine where she will be working on a Bachelor’s Degree in Government.   

Katharine E. Bianchi

Katharine is the daughter of member Raymond Bianchi who works at Stop & Shop #704, Cumberland, RI.  Katharine is entering her senior year at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, RI where she is working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.  Katharine is a two-time winner of a Local 328 scholarship!

Naomi C. Cooper

Naomi is the granddaughter of member Donna Allison who is employed by Stop & Shop #487, East Weymouth, MA.  Naomi is entering her junior year at Stonehill College in Easton, MA where she is working on a Bachelor’s Degree in Business.  Naomi is a two-time winner of a Local 328 scholarship!

Abagail S. Machado

Abagail is the daughter of Linda Machado who work at Stop & Shop #723, Bristol, RI.  Abagail is beginning her freshman year at the Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT where she will be working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics. 

Owen L. McCartby

Owen is the son of member Melanie McCarthy who is employed by Stop & Shop #482, Cohasset, MA.  Owen is entering his senior year at Western New England University in Springfield, MA where he is working on a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.    Owen is a two-time winner of a Local 328 scholarship!

Corin E. Muzrim

Corin is the granddaughter Barbara Muzrim who is an active member of the Retirees’ Club, formerly employed by Stop & Shop #2414, Pembroke, MA. Corin is entering her junior year at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA where she is working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Conservation Biology.

Renata A. Palladino

Renata is the daughter of Barbara and Mario Palladino who work at Stop & Shop #444, Whitman, MA.  Renata is entering her senior year at the State University of New York in Oneonta, NY where she is working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in History.  Renata is a FOUR-TIME WINNER of a Local 328 scholarship!

Matthew L. Rego

Matthew is the son of Abel Rego who is employed by Stop & Shop #737, North Kingston, RI.  Matthew is beginning his freshman year at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, RI where he will be working on a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Marketing.

Lia K. Scorpio

Lia is the daughter of Paul Scorpio who works at Stop & Shop #703, Johnston, RI.  Lia is entering her junior year at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT where she is working on a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Computer Information Systems.  Lia is a two-time winner of a Local 328 scholarship!

UFCW Discount College Program 

Whether you’re looking for affordable degree options for your family members or want to continue your own education, the UFCW Discount College Program gives you an affordable and flexible path to earning your degree. All classes are online and you can attend part-time or full-time based on your availability. 

The new program replaces the previously existing “Free College Benefit,” and expands UFCW members’ access to a broader selection of participating colleges as well as degree programs spanning from certificates and associate to bachelor’s degrees. We will also be introducing master’s degrees as a new addition to the program, providing even more opportunities for our participants.

UFCW Free GED Program 
 
The UFCW has available a no-cost GED program for all UFCW members.
 
The UFCW GED program offers a customized learning plan, so that you’ll be able to prepare yourself to pass the GED test, regardless of when you last went to school.

Roger Williams University – 15% Tuition Discount

We’re excited to announce a new member benefit! UFCW Local 328 members are eligible to receive a 15% tuition discount at Roger Williams University! Classes are available both online and in-person.

Additionally, through the university’s PLA program, students can earn college credits for knowledge and skills acquired outside of traditional academic settings, including for work experience, military training, certifications and licenses, volunteer work, second language skills, and independent study.
