Stewards

Stewards are the union’s representatives that are located in your facility. They should be the easiest contact with your union since they work with you on a daily basis. They are able to give you information concerning your contract, upcoming events, and assist you if you have problems in your workplace. Local 328 has approximately 250 stewards specifically for this purpose. Your steward's name is located on the Union Card that can be found next to the time clock in your facility.

General Duties of a Shop Steward

Make yourself known to the employees of your facility.

Attend union meetings and other sponsored union events.

Listen to the members and, if you can, answer their concerns. If not, direct them to the Union Representative who services the facility.

Post notices on the bulletin boards pertaining to union business.

Inform members of their basic right to belonging to a union.

Involve members in the Political Action Program. Sign members up for as little as $ .25 per week.

Report contract violations in your facility to the Union Representative.

Be a positive force in your work facility and let your co-workers know that you care.
