Stop & Shop Negotiations Update 3/10/16
We have just concluded another day of bargaining with your employer, and as much as I am hoping that I could tell you that we have an agreement with Stop & Shop, we don’t.
We continue to meet and have dialogue concerning health and welfare along with the problems created by the new minimum wages in all three states represented by Local 328. We continue to fight with the company over the wages and benefits that we feel everyone, presently and in the future, working for Stop & Shop deserves.
As a result of these discussions we continue to request information from the company on their methodology and reasons for what they are demanding in order to make an informed decision.
While all five New England Presidents were bargaining in Providence, a rally was being conducted at the Stop & Shop in Braintree, Massachusetts. Thank you to the hundreds of union brothers and sisters who converged on this store for a two hour rally with speakers that included Massachusetts AFL-CIO President Steve Tolman, Massachusetts State Treasurer Deb Goldberg (granddaughter of the original owner of Stop & Shop, Sidney Rabb), UFCW International Executive Vice President Stuart Applebaum, as well as Presidents from UFCW locals as far away as New York and New Jersey.
I would like to thank everyone who took the time to attend today’s rally and showed support and solidarity for all our brothers and sisters who work for Stop & Shop.
Please continue to check our website for updates and stay strong.
Remember, our unity is our strength and our strength is our unity.
I remain,
Sincerely and fraternally yours,
Timothy Melia
President
