The Local 328 Scholarship Committee annually awards ten (10) $1,500 Scholarships. The Scholarship Program is open to all active dues paying members who are in good standing with Local 328 or with the Local 328 Retirees’ Club, or to the spouse, child or grandchild of an active dues paying member.

Students must be enrolled full-time in a degree program at any post secondary college/university or vocational/technical school.  Students wishing to apply for the scholarship are required to submit a minimum five hundred (500) word essay on the topic below.  Your name should not be on or included within your essay. Please refer to the scholarship application for further eligibility rules and restrictions.

The topic of this year’s essay is: Presently, the economy is booming with unemployment rates at historical lows and the stock market reaching record highs.  During the last two years we have seen more and more groups deciding to take collective action against their employers by striking. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 485,000 U.S. workers were involved in strikes and lockouts during 2018. That’s the highest number since 1986.  As of October 28, 85,000 workers were out on strike in the U.S.   Explain why workers would see the need to go on strike during a period of unprecedented economic growth.

Eligibility:      This scholarship can only be awarded to an eligible member, spouse, child, or grandchild of a qualified member of either UFCW Local 328 or the Local 328 Retiree’s Club. The applicant must be an active dues paying member and be in good standing with Local 328 or with the Local 328 Retiree’s Club. Additionally, students must be enrolled full-time in a degree program at any post-secondary college/university or vocational/technical school.

Winners:    All winners will be notified by mail no later than June 30, 2020.
