In Loving Memory Of David Fleming
It is with great sadness that Local 328 must announce the passing of former Local 328 President David Fleming.
Dave began his union career while working for the Purity Supreme Markets starting in 1965 serving as a shop steward for the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America. Dave joined UFCW Local 328 as an organizer in 1992 and later worked as a Union Representative. Dave served in various capacities with Local 328 until he became President in 2004. David served as President for nearly 11 years.
During his tenure with the Local, Dave was a fierce advocate for working men and women. He served as a Trustee on the Interstate Health and Welfare Fund as well as an Alternate Trustee for the UFCW National Pension Fund.
In the 2015 winter issue of the Union Voice David wrote,
“What makes our union strong, what has made the advances for working people in this country possible, is that we have collectively worked with one voice. I know that the women and men of Rhode Island and Massachusetts will continue to work together so we can have better working conditions for our families. This includes a fair and equitable wage, health insurance and a solid and secure retirement plan.”
On behalf of the Local 328 Executive Board and staff, we would like to offer our sincerest condolence to his wife Janice and his family.
