Stop & Shop Negotiations Update
Good afternoon brothers and sisters,
I just wanted to post a quick update for the end of the week regarding Stop & Shop bargaining.
As many of you already know, we did not meet with your employer this week after ending bargaining with them on the 14th. After the Company had taken a step forward and made some small movements in their proposals, they took two steps backward when we met later in the day and discussed Health and Welfare. After that meeting we told the Company to take some time this week “to regroup and return with good faith proposals that are not predictably unacceptable.”
I took the opportunity this week to get out into some of the stores and meet one on one with many wonderful members who have shown overwhelming support for their union and this process. I feel very confident after this week that we are prepared to get this contract done either at the table or on the street.
We have confirmed three dates next week with your employer (26th, 27th, 28th) to continue bargaining with the hope of getting to a fair agreement that you deserve.
It always has been, and continues to be, my goal to get a contract but I will not wait forever to get one. There is only so much time we have left to get this accomplished and I feel that time is running short.
I thank you for your continued support and patience throughout this process and I will update you again next week once we have resumed negotiations.
I ask you to please remain strong and united. Our Unity is our Strength, and Our Strength is our Unity.
Sincerely and fraternally yours,
Timothy Melia
President
